(“A Simple Dietary Message to Improve Dietary Quality for Metabolic Syndrome”, NHLBI 5R01HL094575) compared the efficacy of two intervention approaches to dietary change in adults with the metabolic syndrome. The two approaches are: 1) the American Heart Association (AHA) 2006 Dietary Guidelines and 2) a single dietary change condition that focuses exclusively on increasing fiber to a goal of ≥30g per day, without specific instructions on other parts of their diet. Women consist of 71.8% of the sample; the average age is about 45y. Most participants (87.5%) have more than high school education. Three 24-h dietary recalls were collected at baseline and at 3-, 6-, and 12-months after randomization (12 recalls total).
